Discover The Pit during Open Monument Day

The former mining site of Heusden-Zolder is opening a new chapter. From now on, the site will be known as The Pit, a name that refers both to its rich past and its future as a vibrant meeting place where heritage, culture, education, events and innovation come together.

The choice of name is no coincidence. In the past, no one spoke of “the mine”: miners went to work “in the pit”. Today, this historical reference has been given a contemporary and international character. At the same time, The Pit is a nod to the pit lane at Circuit Zolder and the “orchestra pit”, where music comes to life. The name therefore perfectly reflects the versatility of the site, where CC Muze, Watt17, de Luchtfabriek, CVO De Verdieping and The Max, among others, complement and reinforce one another.

Curious about The Pit? Open Monument Day on Sunday 13 September is the perfect opportunity to discover the renewed site. The programme includes fascinating guided tours that take you through the past, present and future of the mining site. You can also take part in Breakfast in the Dark at Watt17, a unique breakfast experience in complete darkness. The regional #Vingerafdrukken in de Lage Kempen campaign is also part of the day. Collect fingerprints and you could win some great prizes.
